One of the most powerful and sometimes underutilized tools in a beauty kit are false lashes. No matter how tired you may be, nothing polishes up a look quite like a healthy dose of lashes. But we’re here to tell you that falsies aren’t just for formal occasions anymore! Take a look at some of the most frequently asked questions about eyelash extensions and find out if they are right for you and your lifestyle.
WHAT ARE “MINK” EXTENSIONS?
If you hear the phrase “mink eyelashes” and immediately think of your grandma’s mink fur coat, you’re on the right track. The hair strands come from the mink tail and offer the most natural appearance of extensions as they are soft and fluffy with naturally tapered tips. In contrast to daily strip-lashes, extensions provide you with a semi-permanent solution to short, thin lashes.
HOW LONG DO THEY LAST?
Generally, extensions should last you about two weeks. Where strip lashes are applied with latex-based glues to the skin of the lashline, extensions are adhered to the actual strands of your natural lashes. By avoiding excess oils to the lashline and minimal mascara applications, your extensions should only fall out with the shedding of your existing lashes.
HOW DO I REMOVE THEM?
Once the majority of extensions begin to shed, you may decide to remove the remaining strands yourself. Coconut oil applied to a cotton swab will gently dissolve the glue, but we strongly advise NOT to pull them out, as they will take your real lashes along with them.
Keep in mind, that your technician can also offer you a professional removal session to insure that your natural lashes remain intact.
HOW MUCH DO THEY COST?
Common application prices range from about $100-300 depending on the salon and material of the lashes. At Alicia’s Salon & Day Spa, we offer authentic mink lashes at a reasonable $100.
ARE THERE ALTERNATIVES TO EXTENSIONS?
For $20 less, you could opt for an eyelash lift and tinting instead. This process will mimic the appearance of mascara instead of incorporating additional strands of hair to the lashline.
